Monza provided a major shock as Rene Smit only qualified on the secod row. The honour of starting first on the grid went to Oliver Roberts, earning himself a potentially valuable point.

The race, however, didn't go so well for Roberts, as he finished only 3rd. Roberts blamed this result on not playing F1GP for over 6 weeks. The words 'at', ' 'straws' and 'clutching' come to mind! :) Luckily for Roberts, Smit finished behind him, allowing the gap in the championship to actually be increased.

Two seconds ahead, in 2nd place, was Grinder's Patrick Giesbergen, equalling his best result of the season which he had achieved at Mexico. This result, though, was eclipsed by Michal Janak, who won his first race of the season by an impressive 34 seconds.

Digitech's challenge for the Constructor's Championsip was helped by Alan Strang's 5th place, his best result since Brazil.
