The third race of the season was held at the much disliked Imola circuit. This point was backed up by the fact that only 13 of the 32 competitors completed the 61 lap race.

Rene Smit was fastest in qualifying for the 2nd time, giving Nightmare their 3rd pole position of the season.

Senna Team`s Pedro Celli was the victor in the race with a handsome lead of 14 seconds over his nearest rival. This win caused much surprise amongst the `top` drivers since he had failed to get in the points in the previous two races. Robert Schaftlein took 2nd place with a fine performance, driving the fastest lap of the race, and claiming that he had simply `cruised home`.

In contrast, however, most competitors reported problems at this track. For example, 8th place Smit would have had a much higher finish had he not crashed twice in the last 4 laps. Nightmare`s Grant Reeve was the first retirement of the race, achieving the feat he narrowly missed out on at Brazil, crashing out after only 1 lap.

Special note should be given to Oliver Roberts, Tero Savoleinen, and David Pennington who have now finished all three races in the Top 10. Unfortunately, however, both Savoleinen and Pennington would be unable to continue the season, meaning that two potential title challengers had gone.
