Morning practice for the Pro series got off to a ghastly start when Players
Racing driver Mario Sarno had an almighty accident coming through the
tunnel on his first lap out of the pits. The car tapped the barrier slighty
and was pitched to the other side of the track, tearing most of the right
hand side of the car off and hurling the remains 400 yards down the track.
When the wreck stopped moving the crowd sat in silence as Sarno was
removed from the track by a medical team. He suffered mild concussion and
is doubtful for Canada. When the race got underway only 3 cars took to the
grid, the Cyberspeed and GJM Racing squads deciding to call it a day after
having problems in qualifying. Kane and Wilkox banged wheels and spun at
the first corner giving Turbo Geese pilot Zasitko a 15 second lead at the
end of the first lap. He was unstopable and raced to a one lap win over
Wilcox while Kane wrote his car off in the swimming pool section on lap 17.
