For the Pro race at the venue, BCR weren't quite as dominant as usual - the Turbo Geese machine of Gary Leighton and impressive rookie Ian Parkhouse filled the front row with Mario Sarno in third.
At the start Parkhouse made a scorching getaway to take the lead while Leighton, Sarno and McCandless followed. On lap 4 Sarno went the long way round Leighton for second, passing on the outside of the hairpin.
Lap 8 saw a huge incident as McCandless lost the rear wing of his GJM at 180 mph towards the end of the pit straight. The car did 8 clear 360 degree turns before ploughing off the track, through the gravel at undiminished speed and shattering the nosecone against the tyre wall. Amazingly he reversed the broken car out of the wall and toured around to the pits for lengthy repairs. Unfortunately the car could not be made race worthy and the GJM came back into the pits to retire on lap 10.
Leighton fell foul of rear wing strut fragments on the pit straight later with a puncture and bashed his front wing struggling to bring the three-wheeled car into the pits for service.
Out front Parkhouse and Sarno both pitted on lap 17 but Parkhouse extended his lead slightly as the laps counted down, eventually winning by 17 seconds.
No Mark Butler allows Sarno to extend his lead of the Championship over his team-mate from 9 to 193 points. His win leaps Parkhouse from 5th to 3rd.
